From President Ada N. Lopez
Dear NACOPRW Members,
e celebrate President Obama's decision to appoint Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the United States Supreme Court. In nominating Judge Sotomayor, the President has selected a Puerto Rican woman of great intellect, character and strength. This nomination brings President Obama closer to fullfilling his promise of inclusion and we applaud this historic decision. This appointment comes after the President appointed approximately twenty one Latinos to fill policy making positions during his first one hundred days in office. More Puerto Ricans and Latinos need to be included in the halls of power in the future.

Dear Members,it is my pleasure to greet you as summer comes into full swing. It has been a very exciting year, with a new and energetic chapter in Tampa, and prospects for future ones. We had an outstanding quarterly meeting in Philadelphia, with the host chapter greeting us with great charm. What a wonderful city! I want to thank the president of Philadelphia Chapter, Carmen Bonilla who helped organize the meeting, and the delegates and members who made us feel truly welcome. In particular, I would like to recognize Lourdes Hernandez who helped to facilitate the sponsorship for our meeting at .READ MORE

t never ceases to amaze me that, even after over 100 years of being affiliated with the United States, and 91 years of citizenship, some governmental officials still lack basic knowledge about the history and geography of the United States, especially as it relates to its territories. What is a “foreign citizen”? This ignorance is reflected in the insulting comments made by Representative Ginny Browne-Waite. Each one of us plays a critical role as a leader and representative of our Puerto Rican community, one that helps to inform and educate others about our status and affirms our rights as citizens. NACOPRW can help in this area with our local and national initiatives and activities.READ MORE

s the new year gets closer we reflect on the past year; the challenges that help us grow, the triumphs for which we are grateful and the opportunity we have to plan for the future. One of our most exciting endeavors of 2007 was the successful national convention in California which brought renewed energy and commitment from all members, old and new. I want to thank so many NACOPRW members who gave of their time and energy to make this event valuable and memorable. Kudos and thank you to our convention chair, Anna Rosario, to the committee chairs... READ MORE
