he National Conference of Puerto Rican Women held its 36th annual convention in Chicago on November 13th. The women of NACOPRW experienced a renewed spirit for change that will strengthen our communities on the mainland and in Puerto Rico.. Aspira young women discussed leadership and mentorship models to continue our common legacy and become vital contributors to their communities. Daisy Sanchez Collazo – Author and Investigative reporter with Univison Puerto Rico, received the NACOPRW 2009 Humanitarian Award; Lillian Rodriguez- Lopez, President of the Hispanic Federation and Chair of the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda (NHLA); Illinois State Senator, Iris Martinez and Norma Reyes, Chicago City Commissioner of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection; were also honored for their tireless work on behalf of women and their families.
Ana Vazquez, University of Chicago Deputy Dean of Students and Director of Multicultural Student Affairs; Marisol Morales, De Paul University , Stean Center; Juanita Irizarry, Community Trust and Laura Linger of William Blair and Company conducted interactive workshops.
NACOPRW will continue its work in 2010 in coalition with all people of good conscious on behalf of our communities.
